Capital Projects/Endowments

With the generous support of our alumni and friends, we can ensure our current students obtain a quality education that will serve them well throughout their professional lives. As you know, through the pursuit of our degrees, our students acquire skills and abilities that can provide them with access to a world of possibilities in a range of fields. Your gift will help us provide them with exceptional educational experiences. Furthermore, funds raised to establish professorships will help us continue to attract and keep instructors who will work to maintain and expand upon the departments reputation. Finally, donations to the LSU Theatre Circle and the Friends of LSU Dance Fund help us undertake special projects that enhance the educational and professional experiences of our students, faculty, and professional staff alike.

The LSU Theatre Circle, the support group for the Department of Theatre, provides general funds to help us undertake various projects. Efforts of the Theatre Circle aid the department in bringing guest scholars and artists to campus, purchasing special equipment, hosting receptions, and undertaking various fundraising initiatives to ensure the department remains vital in the years to come.

Swine Palace Fund provides general operating funds for Baton Rouge’s only professional, non-profit, Equity theatre which provides citizens of the Capital Region with full-scale productions for which professional actors, designers, directors and technicians create classical and contemporary works of art indigenous to Louisiana. A donation helps to enhance the educational and professional experiences of the LSU Department of Theatre students, faculty, and staff.

Billy J. Harbin Ph. D. Award Fund was established to honor Professor Emeritus Bill Harbin and is awarded to recognize outstanding graduate scholarship.

The Friends of LSU Dance Fund supports our new and popular dance program and helps cover short-term costs related to the programs productions, classroom supplies, and guest artists stipends.

The Claude L. Shaver Endowed Scholarship assists students in the Department of Theatre. This scholarship fund, established in 1984, recognizes Professor Shaver’s outstanding contributions to the department.

The Barry Lee Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the late Barry Lee (B.A., 1972) and was established with a generous donation from LSU alumnus Wil Calhoun and his wife Taryn. The award is given to students in the M.F.A. acting program as selected by the programs faculty. Barry earned an M.F.A. at Brandeis, and had a successful career at the Hartford Stage Company and on Broadway in the musical Big River.
