In this current climate of social media, everyone’s private affairs can become very public at lightening speed. GOOD KIDS explores many of today’s most explosive topics including social media and sexual assault in a very real and relatable way.

Something happened to Chloe after that party last Saturday night. Something she says she can’t remember. Something everybody at school is talking about. Was she raped? Did she ask for it? How could those boys do that to her? Or did they? Set in a high school in the American Midwest in a world of Facebook and Twitter, smart phones and YouTube, Good Kids explores a casual sexual encounter gone wrong and its very public aftermath.

BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK

February 17 – 28, 2016

Presented by LSU Theatre
Performances in the Reilly Theatre
By Lynn Nottage
Directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh

At the 2014 Academy Awards ceremony, the issue of race in the world of film was discussed at length by the host as well as the media surrounding the event. In this show, playwright Lynn Nottage explores this topic through the humorous and powerful story of Vera Stark and her amazing journeys in the world of Hollywood film.

In a new comedy from the Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright of Ruined, Lynn Nottage draws upon the screwball films of the 1930s to take a funny and irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood. BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK is a seventy-year journey through the life of Vera Stark, a headstrong African-American maid and budding actress, and her tangled relationship with her boss, a white Hollywood star desperately grasping to hold on to her career. When circumstances collide and both women land roles in the same Southern epic, the story behind the cameras leaves Vera with a surprising and controversial legacy scholars will debate for years to come.

VIEUX CARRE

April 13 – 24, 2016

Presented by Swine Palace
Performances in Reilly Theatre
By Tennessee Williams
Directed by George Judy

Swine Palace continues the exploration of identity with one of Williams’ lesser-known plays, but certainly one of his most poignant. As with all of Williams’ writing, people that call Louisiana home will find many of these characters and their stories familiar.

The place is a rooming house in the French Quarter of New Orleans, the time the late Thirties. As narrated by The Writer, a young man recently arrived from St. Louis, the action is concerned with interlocking lives of the various residents. Filled with evocative memories, and sharply etched portraits of its singular characters, it is a play of echoes and remembrances, a series of engrossing scenes, sometimes brutally candid sometimes delicately poetic, which are woven together into a rich and revealing tapestry.

VIEUX CARRE runs for eleven performances including one Pay-What-You-Can preview and one $15 sneak preview.
