November 9 – 20, 2016
MR BURNS, A POST ELECTRIC PLAY by Anne Washburn is a dark comedy exploring the creation of the myths and legends that are valued by our culture. Imagine an entire series of stories based on The Simpsons!
LSU Theatre is excited to present the regional premiere of Mr. Burns a post-electric play by Anne Washburn. In the wake of a post-apocalyptic event, a group of strangers gather to reenact an episode from the cult classic TV series, The Simpsons. A new vision for musical theatre, complete with commercials, emerges from their recollections and is established as a valued cultural experience. Fast-forward seventy years into this new society and we find that The Simpsons have become high art. Whether you are a Simpsons fan or not, this piece will make you think about how stories are made and what we consider valuable in our culture.
